Last night while watching YouTube, I was served a Vimeo ad.
I was surprised that Youtube would allow a competitor to advertise on their platform.
Vimeo Pro is a Premium service account for businesses and professionals. For $199 per year you get: Private, unlisted video review pages, customizable and brandable video player displays, you can sell your work on Vimeo On Demand, and have access to advanced dashboard stats, to name few.
Vimeo itself has a no ads policy. So ironically, they’ve turned to a competitor, as they cannot advertise their one of their monetised product on their own platform.
On the other hand, YouTube is such a behemoth, that they don’t seem to care. Vimeo’s offering isn’t going put a dent in their viewership, but I paid attention to the pre-roll a lot more because of its sneaky placement.
